How we work


Any complex creative project comes with its share of stakeholders.  As the design lead on a project, it’s our responsibility to ensure we’re working in a collaborative and transparent manner.  Clearly defining a client’s business and marketing objectives at the onset of a project is critical and allows us to accurately layout the project scope and agree on a timeline. Breaking down large, complex projects scopes into manageable, clear tasks with pre-determined check-in dates is an important step. Exploring all facets of the project at the beginning, including how it will likely be produced, lays a solid foundation for a successful project.

As we begin to provide creative solutions, explaining the rationale behind the work and how it fits into the larger design strategy or system is crucial. Incorporating feedback from marketers, new business teams, account management, and purchasing teams is important to making sure the creative output is meeting business objectives. Providing multiple check-in points throughout each phase of a project brings stakeholders along on the creative journey and provides them with the necessary opportunities to influence the work. 

The earlier we can involve stakeholders in key creative decisions, the better.  Buy-in from decision makers increases dramatically when they’re involved throughout the process, and when done right, it’s a more enjoyable process for everyone participating in the work - good collaboration results in successful business outcomes. 

Projects are typically
broken up into 4 phases.



1   Discovery

As we start new projects, we work with our clients to understand their business and project goals. We review the creative brief with our clients, or help them to develop one that we can use as the foundation for the project.  We get clear on the objectives, and we break down large project scopes into manageable, clear tasks.


2   Concepting

When developing concepts to present to a client, we typically work through a series of quick iterations, using hand sketches combined with research & inspiration that helps to define the idea. Even at this early stage, production method is considered and discussed with technical teams when possible.


3   Development

After the client determines which concept(s) to pursue, we begin executing.  During development, we typically explore variations of the approved concept(s), the best of which are proposed to the client.


4   Production

Once we’ve narrowed down to the final creative execution, we refine our work, ensuring that whoever will be producing your project has exactly what they need to deliver the highest quality product possible.  We’re often communicating with our production partners throughout the project and will continue until production is complete.
